Route Weather Planner

NOAA weather forecasts along your drive — time-adjusted conditions, precipitation, wind, and elevation at every waypoint

Max elevation filter

How It Works

1

Enter your route

Type any US starting point and destination — city names, full street addresses, or landmarks are all supported.

2

Set your departure time

Leave blank to plan for right now, or pick a future date and time to see the forecast when you'll actually be on the road.

3

Get time-adjusted forecasts

NOAA weather is fetched for each waypoint and matched to your estimated arrival time — not just current conditions.

What the Route Planner Shows

  • Temperature forecast at each stop
  • Precipitation probability along the way
  • Wind speed at every waypoint
  • Elevation profile with mountain pass warnings
  • Drive time and total distance
  • Interactive map with weather overlays
  • Zoom in for denser weather detail on any segment
  • Optional max elevation filter for mountain routes

Built for Drivers Who Take Weather Seriously

Whether you're planning a cross-country road trip, hauling freight through mountain passes, riding a motorcycle across the plains, or chasing storms across Tornado Alley — knowing the weather at every stop matters more than just the forecast at home. WxSignal's route planner pulls NOAA GFS forecast data and maps it to each segment of your specific drive, adjusted for when you'll actually be there.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance can I plan my route weather?

Up to 7 days. NOAA GFS model data is available about 7 days out. Forecasts beyond 3–4 days are less precise, so treat them as general guidance rather than hour-by-hour certainty.

Does the weather account for my actual drive time?

Yes. Each waypoint shows the forecasted conditions for your estimated arrival time — not the weather right now. A 6-hour drive through changing weather will show different conditions at each stop based on when you'll actually be there.

What weather data source does it use?

Temperature, precipitation, wind, and conditions come from the NOAA GFS model via Open-Meteo. Routing comes from OpenRouteService. All data is US-focused.

What does the elevation filter do?

Enable the max elevation filter if you want to be warned when your route crosses high mountain passes. Set your limit (e.g., 8,000 ft) and the planner will flag any route that exceeds it — useful for winter driving or vehicles that struggle at altitude.

Can I plan weather for a future road trip?

Yes — use the "Depart at" field to set a future date and time. The forecast will be calculated for your planned departure, showing conditions at each waypoint based on when you'll actually arrive there.
